Gig Guide August 2017
Welcome to The RT Rock Show Gig Guide blog for August 2017! First of all I must note how quiet it looks for the month. Whether it's the amount of awesome gigs we've had recently or just the norm for the summer I don't know but rest assured, there is plenty to get your teeth into. On August 4th in Fuel Rock Club Cardiff we have an awesome looking show just dripping with rock n' roll. I am of course talking about Tyla's Dogs D'Amour with support from Nicotine Pretty. The Dogs D'Amour need no introduction to anyone even remotely interested in rock n'roll. Formed all the way back in 1983 in London, the band have gone through many changes over the years but it's frontman Tyla J. Pallas who has kept the band rocking. With a great band of musicians behind him, Tyla is recording a new album and hitting the road again. And with a set list voted on by the fans, you can be certain of a show to remember! Support comes from Nicotine Pretty. Local lads from Bridgend, they play a rock n' roll with punk attitude and a power pop catchiness to their songs. They released their debut single 'Who's Gonna Save My Soul' in April and recently the followup 'Nicotine Pretty'. As great as the band sound on record, it's live on stage where they really shine and with Tyla's Dogs D'Amour it's the perfect pairing! The show has been put together by Crazy Cowboy Live Events. Check them out online for more great shows 🎸🤘
Next up is a cracker featuring some thrash metal legends. At Hobo's in Bridgend on August the 10th we have the excellent Death Angel with support from Warbringer and Sodomized Cadaver. One of the originals from the Bay Area US thrash scene, Death Angel are a band with a legacy. We're all familiar with the classics - The Ultra-Voilence and Frolic Through The Park to name a few. But it's the new album that they are touring on the back of. 2016's 'The Evil Divide' is both instantly recognisable as Death Angel and yet pushes the band even further in terms of high end song writing, playing and production.
Signed to Nuclear Blast, the band are a well oiled live machine and fronted by the ever enthusiastic Mark Osegueda, they're definitely ones to catch. Support comes from Warbringer. An established US thrash band themselves, they're part of the new wave of awesome bands that hit the scene post 2000. Currently touring in support of their fifth album 'Woe To The Vanquished' on Century Media, Warbringer could easily headline Hobo's themselves.
Also on the bill are Welsh death metal maniacs Sodomized Cadaver. If you haven't seen these guys yet then you're missing out (and likely been living in a cave)! An awesome slab of death metal like a cricket bat to the face. They'll leave your head ringing and no doubt about it! It's an unmissable show for the metal maniacs out there 🤘
August the 18th sees a cracking show at Crowleys Rock Bar in Swansea. Local bands 9 X Dead, Beneath The Divine and The Dark Valley put on a great night of rock n' metal.
9 X Dead headline with their brand Goth metal. From Rhymney, the band will be bringing their own style of Goth which is on the Doomy end with a smattering of Punk for a show of originals and a few 'personalised' covers.
Beneath The Divine are four piece from Chepstow. They are an old school doom based rock band with elements of stoner metal. Described as solid, heavy and soulful, they bring the heavy but with a nice, clean vocal. Their album 'The Wicked Resurrection' is out now.
The Dark Valley round off the bill with their own brand of rock. A classic three piece from Caerphilly, they feature Jamie Little on Vocals/Guitars, Chris Hopkins on Bass and Cameron Harvey on Drums. Having a sound that is a modern rock style with an alternative edge and taking influence from a range of classic rock and metal, they're perfect to kick off the night with a bang!🤘
August the 19th is a date to mark in the calendar if you're into your Indie as Sin City Swansea play host to Irish Indie Rock legends Ash!
Tim Wheeler along with Mark Hamilton and Rick McMurray bring their infectious brand of pop punk Indie rock to Swansea in support of their latest album 'Kablammo!'. With a set of new songs littered with classics such as 'Girl From Mars' off their 1996 hit album '1977', you can be sure you'll have a good night.
Thanks to our very good friends at Sin City we have a pair of tickets to give away for the ASH gig. Simply send us a message with "ASH" as the subject. Competition ends Monday 14th August at 9pm and the winner will be notified by email. www.thertrockshow.com/contact
On August the 20th there will be a special night out for fans of the more extreme end of the metal spectrum. Eradication Booking have got together with The Pit in Swansea to bring you the first edition of 'Eradicating Swansea'.
A free entry metal club night, it will be host to some of the best unsigned metal bands in the country. The first night will be headlined by Ascaris, a blackened death metal band from Gloucester. Also on the bill will be death metallers All Consumed from Preston, Incursion from the Rhondda, Cardiff porno goregrind merchants Anal Floss Is Boss and local one man progressive metal machine SOIM (Sounds Of Insane Music).
Sounds like a great night of metal 🤘
And lastly on the 25th of August we have a cracking show in the Uplands featuring some good old rock n roll. The Garage in Uplands will be host to Son Of Man and Buffalo Summer. Son Of Man will be doing a double headliner with Buffalo Summer so both bands will be doing full sets.
Expect classic Man hits played with class from Son Of Man and groovy, Southern style feel good rock n roll from Buffalo Summer. A great show to end the month and our gig guide on.
Get out there and support live music. Let us know what bands you've been watching and who's blown you away 🤘
