Gig Guide - October 2017

Welcome to The RT Rock Show Gig Guide for October.

Winter is coming! Pretty much sums up the horrible Autumn weather that we're having at the moment. On the bright side though, the gigs are really starting to ramp up. It always seems to take a dip through the summer months what with festivals etc but it's looking like a great month ahead. There are way to many stand out gigs this month to highlight them all so here are just a handful of ones we like the look of.

First up is a double whammy of heaviness from the guys at Eradication. October the 4th sees Columbian death metallers roll into town first at Fuel Rock Club Cardiff and then on October the 6th in The Duke in Neath. Formed in 1997 in Columbia, the band are one of the top death metal bands in the South American scene. Lyrically focussing on social and political issues, the band are known for a great live show that feels like you're in the middle of a war zone. Currently on their third album 'When Chaos Reigns' and a UK tour, they're definitely worth checking out and a great band to bring to South Wales. Support at Fuel comes from Bristol death metallers Body Harvest, Swansea death metallers Sepulchre and South Wales based death metallers Cranial Seperation. Support at The Duke comes from Pembrokeshire's In Which It Burns and more.

October the 12th is a night for the fans of power metal. The Globe in Cardiff will play host to top UK power metallers DragonForce and Power Quest.   Needing no introduction, DragonForce are one of the biggest power metal bands the UK have produced. Currently touring in support of their seventh album 'Reaching Into Infinity' the band are no strangers to the live stage. On their third album now with current singer Marc Hudson, the band are sounding stronger than ever with the new music sounding tight and focussed. Always a fun band to watch who are able to shred away on stage while also having fun and not taking themselves too seriously, it's well worth going along.  Support comes from Power Quest. Currently back with a new lineup fronted by Dendera singer Ashley Edison and new album 'Sixth Dimension' the band are out to prove they're still a force to be reckoned with on the power metal scene.

A great night of rock n' roll on October the 14th at the Muni Arts Centre in Pontypridd sees Son Of Man headline with Buffalo Summer and The Boom Sons in support.  Featuring former members of classic Welsh rock band Man and Sassafras playing great original tunes and Mickey Jones classics. Having just released their third video from their self titled debut album the band are both a new band and a band that have been around long enough to know what they're doing.   Support from Neath/Swansea southern blues rockers Buffalo Summer. Having really honed their live show through countless high profile shows, the band are cracking on with their third album due for release this year.   The Boom Sons are a dirty blues alt rock band from the Rhondda. Led by Vanessa Batten on bass and vocals, the band put on a captivating live show and are watching their fan base grow with each show. Don't miss out and get there early!

October the 21st will see a night of fiery blues guitar playing at Sin City Swansea courtesy of Mr Walter Trout.   American Trout has been on the scene since the late sixties and has played with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Canned Heat and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Currently touring in support of his new album 'We're All In This Together', the guitarist and frontman is known for his speedy yet soulful playing. Having watched Walter Trout play myself I can tell you he does put on an awesome show whether you're a fan of the blues or not. Support comes from Brooklyn's Sari Schorr, a powerhouse blues vocalist who comes with high praise for her voice and show. Don't miss out!

The Tramshed in Cardiff is the place you want to be on October the 24th if you like you Glam metal with a bit of shock value. Mr Blackie Lawless will need no introduction to the metal heads out there as the main man for the band W.A.S.P. Formed in the early eighties in America, the band have some 15 albums to their name. Currently touring on the 'Re-Idol-Ized' tour, a 25th anniversary tour for the classic album 'The Crimson Idol'. Expect a set list jammed full of the classics. Support comes from The Cruel Knives. Having recently formed from members of Heaven's Basement with others, the band although new are longtime rockers. Having recently released their debut EP 'Side One' the band are looking to take over the world with their new, slick rock n roll. Watch this space!

Death metal fans will be congregating at Fuel Rock Club Cardiff on October the 25th for another awesome Eradication show featuring American death metal legends Master. Embarking on 'The End Of The World Tour' you can expect frontman Paul Speckmann and co to take no prisoners as they pummel you with their classic brand of death trash metal and roll out the classics. It's a show packed to the rim with great support from Belgian death metallers Dehuman, South Wales legends Sodomized Cadaver, Cardiff doom death metallers The Drowning, Brummie old school death metallers Absolution and Cwmbran based melodic death metallers Democratus. Sure to be a great night! These are just a few of the amazing gigs on offer this month. Let us know what gigs you are off to and how they went.
