FRONTIERS MUSIC NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2018
NEW ALBUM RELEASES OUT 10.08.18
PRIMAL FEAR - ’Apocalypse’ ‘Apocalypse’ is the 12th studio album by Primal Fear and another milestone release by one of the most loved and respected heavy metal bands in the world. Their previous two records, ‘Delivering The Black’ and ‘Rulebreaker’, saw them scale the charts in several territories and receive higher critical praise than ever, recognition that they have continued to raise the bar in terms of quality and musicianship, constantly pushing themselves to find new ways to better their previous output. ‘Apocalypse’ was recorded at Hansen Studios in Denmark with band co-founder and bassist Mat Sinner producing and engineering/mixing by Jacob Hansen. “My personal highlight recording the album was the fantastic teamwork. Peaceful, focused and really creative," says Sinner. "No big discussion, no heated arguments. Everybody did a fantastic job and the performances were top notch. This was the key to improve every little detail of the songs, from old school to epic, from modern to symphonic, from fast to slow - you will hear it all on 'Apocalypse'.” All three guitarists - Magnus Karlsson, Tom Naumann and Alex Beyrodt - shine thanks to Hansen’s mixing skills, while Ralf Scheepers again displays why he is one of the most outstanding metal vocalist heroes of our time. Sinner states that “the overall result on ‘Apocalypse’ is utter satisfaction paired with maximum enthusiasm and we’re really happy with the final result. I hope the fans will enjoy the record as much as we do!”

AIRRACE - ’Untold Stories’
One of the UK’s pioneering AOR acts, Airrace were originally formed in 1982. Having recently re-signed to the Frontiers label, they have released three singles from the new album thus far (‘Eyes Like Ice’, ‘Summer Rain’ and ‘Running Out Of Time’) and will tour the UK in September. Band leader and guitarist Laurie Mansworth states : “We had a great time making the record. It’s not typically Airrace, with a lot of the material being more 70’s influenced. There is also a much wider spectrum between light and shade in the writing. I have always liked a wide range of different musical styles, from ELO to Led Zep, and when writing these songs I incorporated many of my influences from over the years.” Known in Hard Rock circles for being the band that saw the musical debut of drummer Jason Bonham, Airrace was the brainchild of former More guitarist Mansworth. Following the acclaimed 1984 release of their debut album, ’Shaft Of Light', the band supported rock titans such as Queen, AC/DC and Meat Loaf, but they crash-landed by the summer of 1985. It took a 25th anniversary reissue of the album to reunite the group (with an amended line-up), and they issued a second album, ‘Back To The Start’, via Frontiers in 2011.

ENUFF Z'NUFF - ’Diamond Boy’
Centred around bass player/vocalist Chip Z’nuff, Enuff Z’nuff are very much alive and kicking almost 35 years after their inception, boasting a legion of loyal fans who can’t get enough of the band’s power pop melded with hard rock stylings. Also featuring longtime guitarist Tory Stoffregen, ex-Ultravox singer/guitarist Tony Fennell and Chicago native Daniel Benjamin Hill on drums, the band continues to tour regularly, while their new record ‘Diamond Boy’ is yet another gem in the band’s crown. With no shortage of hooks and awesome songs, it once again shows what a truly gifted hard/power pop act they are. Originally formed in Chicago, the band signed to Atco/Atlantic Records in 1989, when founder members Chip Z'Nuff and Donnie Vie were joined by guitarist Derek Frigo and drummer Vikki Foxx to commence work on their self- titled debut album. A monster hit, it spawned two evergreen singles, ‘New Thing’ and ‘Fly High Michelle’, both of which received heavy radio on MTV exposure and spent over 60 weeks in the US Top 10. Its follow-up, ‘Strength’ (1991), had more hard rock overtones yet still sustained the success achieved with their debut, and the band made a number of high profile appearances on the likes of David Letterman and Howard Stern and were featured in Rolling Stone’s Hot Issue as ‘The Next Big Thing'. They subsequently soldiered on during the new musical climates of the 1990’s and have gone on to release a further dozen studio records.

KING COMPANY - ’Queen Of Hearts’
King Company was formed in 2014 by drummer Mirka ‘Leka’ Rantanen together with a number of other musicians from the Finnish hard rock/metal scene. The band released their debut album, ‘One For The Road’, in the summer of 2016, which met with great reviews worldwide. However, following a tour of their home territory in 2017, vocalist Pasi Rantanen wound up with severe vocal cord problems and eventually could not sing at all. With a tour of Spain booked, a high pressure search for a replacement singer resulted in the band finding the perfect candidate on….YouTube! Italian-Argentinian Leonard F. Guillan accepted the job and, proving himself a great live performer, ended up joining the band as their permanent lead vocalist prior to the recording of ‘Queen Of Hearts’. ”I think the most relevant progression on this album is that pretty much all the songs were written after our debut came out,“ says Rantanen. “On the first record, you can hear a few very old songs, but the new material is really fresh and will give the listener a much better picture of what kind of band we have become. Also, we have grown up a lot as a band, which means that we play better and are more relaxed together. Of course, it affected the songs and feelings when we were recording the album."
